Prior to co-founding Compound, David spent his entire career leading sales and BD teams for tech companies working alongside engineering and product functions to commercialize the company's products and spearheading monetization. Google brought on David as their second employee in the New York headquarters in 2000 at a time when the company doing just under $3M in revenue. David then spearheaded the company's monetization strategy by co-founding Google's Vertical Markets Group and wiring the regional sales team structure. For eight years, he oversaw cross-functional and cross-business responsibilities, all of which helped him to lead both Google's culture committee and its recruiting initiative and subsequently hire many of the people who lead Google's sales and business teams today.

Carter co-founded M13 in 2016 with his brother Courtney. The duo co-founded and sold VEEV, the spirits brand, and co-authored the bestseller “Shortcut Your Startup.” A former Goldman Sachs investment banker, Carter is a LACMA board member.

After graduating with a masters degree from MIT’s Media Lab in 1995, David co-founded Firefly, an early pioneer in personalization and privacy technology. Firefly was acquired by Microsoft in 1998 where the company’s flagship product became the Microsoft Passport, the web’s first unified authentication and identity platform. After Firefly, David co-founded PeoplePC, a company dedicated to simplifying the process of joining the online world. PeoplePC served over 600,000 individual subscribers as well as Fortune 100 corporations such as Ford Motor Company, Vivendi Universal and Delta Air Lines. PeoplePC went public in 2001 and was acquired by Earthlink in 2002. In 2005, David co-founded SpotRunner, a Los Angeles-based technology company that worked to revolutionize the way advertising was created, planned, bought and sold.
