Prior to a16z, Ben was cofounder and CEO of Opsware (formerly Loudcloud), which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard for $1.6 billion in 2007, and was appointed vice president and general manager of Business Technology Optimization for Software at HP. Earlier, he was vice president and general manager of America Online’s E-commerce Platform division, where he oversaw development of the company’s flagship Shop@AOL service. Previously, Ben ran several product divisions at Netscape Communications. He also served as vice president of Netscape’s widely acclaimed Directory and Security product line. Before joining Netscape in July 1995, he held various senior product marketing positions at Lotus Development Corporation. Ben serves on the board of Anyscale, Caffeine, Databricks, Mayvenn, Medium, NationBuilder, Okta ($OKTA), Sisu, Tanium, TripActions, and UnitedMasters.

Deeply involved in the startup space since 2005, first as a web developer and then as a journalist, M.G. brings a reporter’s sensibility to his roles as an investor and startup advisor. M.G. credits his journalism background with a key quality he looks for today in founders: the ability to communicate well. “It’s an overlooked skill because a good idea doesn’t always translate into a viable product with users and customers. Storytelling – what you’re doing and why it matters – is incredibly important, whether convincing users to download your app, rallying your team behind a launch, or raising your next round of funding.” Before joining GV, M.G. was a founding partner at CrunchFund, an early-stage investment fund. Before that, he reported on the startup world for TechCrunch and VentureBeat. He still writes regularly for his Medium publication, 500ish.

Prior to founding The Chernin Group, Peter served as President and COO of News Corp and Chairman and CEO of the Fox Group from 1996-2009. During his tenure at Fox and News Corp, Peter oversaw Fox Filmed Entertainment as the #1 studio and greenlit the two highest grossing films of all time – Titanic and Avatar. Notable television hits during Peter’s tenure as CEO of Fox Group include 24, Modern Family, and Glee, which helped 20th Century Fox Television achieve the #1 ranking in television production. He also established Fox Network as the #1 broadcast network across nearly all demos with iconic series including The Simpsons and American Idol. Peter was responsible for launching 15+ cable networks domestically, most notably FX and Fox Sports nets. He also launched 150+ international channels and oversaw the growth of the largest MVPD in the world with Star, Sky, Sky Italia, and DirecTV. With Fox as a co-owner, Peter also launched Hulu.

Chris Sacca is the co-founder of Lowercarbon Capital and an accomplished venture investor, company advisor, and entrepreneur, managing a portfolio of countless technology, communication, and consumer product startups through his firm Lowercase Capital. Alongside his wife Crystal, Chris grew Lowercase — primarily known for its investments in very early-stage technology companies like Twitter, Uber, Instagram, Twilio, Docker, Optimizely, Blue Bottle Coffee, and Stripe — into one of history’s most successful funds ever.
