Oxford Seed Fund is backed by the University of Oxford, the Oxford Saïd Entrepreneurship Centre, and Oxford Science Enterprises, and it funds startups where a current Oxford student, alumnus, or academic staff member is on the founding team, giving those students hands-on training to make real investment decisions with real money while co-investing alongside firms like Y Combinator, a16z crypto csx, Notion Capital, and Techstars. The fund has invested over £1.35m across 43 companies, helped create over 1,200 jobs, and seen its portfolio attract over £110m in follow-on funding, with a portfolio that includes areas like quantum tech, engineered cyanobacteria for carbon capture, metabolomics diagnostics for pets, cell and gene therapy automation, and Nobel Prize-linked nanotechnology pigments.
