About this Sheet

Edtech investors care about something most generalist VCs don't fully grasp: whether your product actually teaches anything. They call it "pedagogical market fit"—the idea that engagement metrics mean nothing if learning outcomes don't follow. This means your pitch needs to go beyond DAUs and retention curves. Come prepared with efficacy data, even if it's early and scrappy: pilot results, before-and-after assessments, teacher testimonials about student progress. The best edtech funds have former educators and learning scientists on staff who will sniff out products that are entertaining but educationally hollow. Also know that edtech has brutal seasonality. School budgets get allocated in spring, purchasing happens in summer, and adoption spikes at back-to-school. If you're selling to K-12, your fundraising calendar should work backward from these cycles—raising when your metrics are hottest gives you leverage.

The buyer landscape in edtech is fragmented in ways that trip up first-time founders. Selling to districts is a 12-18 month slog with procurement committees and pilot requirements. Selling direct-to-consumer (parents, adult learners) is faster but requires real CAC discipline since LTV can be unpredictable. Selling to employers for workforce training is somewhere in between. Investors on this list will pattern-match hard against whichever go-to-market you've chosen, so know which funds have portfolio companies in your lane and can actually help with intros to buyers. One more thing: edtech funding has cooled significantly from its 2021 peak, with average deal sizes dropping and investors getting pickier. The funds still actively deploying tend to favor AI-native products and clear paths to revenue over growth-at-all-costs stories. If you're pre-revenue, you'll need a tighter narrative than you would have two years ago.
