Planeteer Capital was founded by Sophie Purdom, whose background includes co-founding the climate-tech media outlet CTVC, launching an ESG fund at a major endowment, working at Bain, and helping build the startup Kula Bio, and the fund itself grew out of individual investments she made before backers asked her to start a dedicated fund. Planeteer focuses on startups that use physical devices to create new data and then build software and business models like insurance or financing on top of it, including businesses addressing pricing and risk created by climate instability, and it aims to stay small enough to lead early rounds while backing a limited group of founders it describes as having nonlinear ambition and urgency.
