Andy Funk built his career on both sides of the tech stack he now invests in, leading network strategy at Virtela before co-founding and running the identity security platform OverWatchID through its acquisition by SailPoint. That mix of networking and security experience, spanning three exits, gives him a hands-on background that now shapes how he invests at Stormbreaker Ventures.
About their Fund
Stormbreaker Ventures focuses specifically on the infrastructure, software, and connectivity layers behind networks, IoT, and edge systems, rather than general tech or software investing, and its general partners are former executives from AT&T Mobility, Qualcomm, and Bell Canada/Clearnet—including Glenn Lurie, who helped negotiate the first iPhone deal and built AT&T's IoT and Digital Life businesses, and Derek Aberle, former President of Qualcomm—giving the fund direct experience running telecom networks and products rather than just investing in them. This specialization has attracted founders building connectivity infrastructure as well as strategic investors like Thermo Companies and Mi Capital, who don't typically invest in venture funds but chose Stormbreaker specifically for its wireless and mobility expertise.
