About their Fund
Upslope Ventures originated as the in-house fund for Galvanize's national network of coding schools and entrepreneurial campuses, giving them unusually deep relationships with thousands of founders built through physical community rather than traditional deal sourcing, and was later carved out as a standalone firm to focus exclusively on venture while leveraging that legacy community footprint. Led by Managing Partner Kate Shillo Beardsley, whose nontraditional path from Martha Stewart's executive assistant to early New York tech investor shaped her "treasure hunting" approach to finding completely undiscovered companies, the firm intentionally invests in overlooked ecosystems and takes pre-seed risk in places most coastal funds avoid until larger rounds are already formed.
