Dr. Oliver Schoppe brings together electrical engineering, neuroscience, computer science, and AI—studied at TUM, Oxford, Harvard, and MIT—along with earlier M&A and private equity work at McKinsey, and he uses that mix to help turn scientific breakthroughs into real investment opportunities, including hands-on advising sessions for early technical founders. He also has a clear point of view on how AI startups should be built, favoring a funding path that runs from dilution-free grants to pre-seed to VC rounds, and he's drawn to AI tied to hard technology like photonic processing and industrial supply chains, while noting that founders and researchers are increasingly moving to Germany from places like the US and India.
About their Fund
UVC Partners was founded in 2011 within UnternehmerTUM, Europe's largest startup hub, at a time when German venture capital was still recovering from the dotcom crash, and it uses an in-house data team, a startup database with about 700,000 datapoints, and an internal tool called uvcGPT to find and evaluate deals, while making investment decisions by consensus rather than letting individual partners own deals. All of its partners have technical backgrounds, which has helped it connect with technical founders and back deeptech companies like Proxima Fusion before they gained wider investor interest, and it reserves more than 50% of its fund for follow-on investments, using growth funds and SPVs to keep increasing its ownership in successful companies instead of being diluted over time.
