On why they refuse to look at your pitch deck
"We hate pitch decks. When we get on calls, we tell founders we don't want to see the pitch deck. Some will pull it up... 'with all due respect, I know you put a lot of work into it, please take it down.' We'd rather have a conversation."
On decision speed as the actual product
"We tell the founder we'll make a decision within 48 hours of that meeting. We're usually 24 hours... just that clarity of timelines, showing up prepared."
On treating a second meeting as their own failure
"We look at it as a failure on our process if we have to do another meeting with a founder. That means we weren't prepared or we didn't ask the right questions the first time around."
On the question they've banned internally
"We have a rule in the fund that nobody is ever allowed to ask [who's on your cap table] on a call... we think it's the stupidest question. It shows you can't develop your own conviction and can't make your own decisions. And it's just optimizing the wrong thing."
On manufacturing fake momentum
"Manufacturing fake FOMO... can be a very dangerous game... we've seen hundreds and hundreds and hundreds. So... our fake FOMO detector is pretty high... their data set is one fundraising process."
