José Mª Amusátegui co-founded both Kibo Ventures and Cygnus Asset Management, Spain's first independent regulated hedge fund manager, giving him an unusual combination of early-stage venture and public markets expertise. He maintains active dual roles as a founding partner at both firms since 2006 and 2012 respectively, while also serving as CEO of Cygnus from 2017-2021—a rare combination of fund manager/operator and venture investor among Spanish VCs.

Notable Investments
Kibo Ventures operates as a high-conviction "super-angel" fund that bridges angel and institutional capital in Spain, with a systematic approach of investing in companies with Spanish angles while deploying globally, producing exits to major tech acquirers like Apple, PayPal, and Airbnb despite its boutique size. The firm has built a dual platform spanning early-stage deeptech/AI venture capital and a €200m tech-focused private equity fund, while developing proprietary AI-driven sourcing systems and maintaining structured Europe-US bridge capabilities through its Silicon Valley-experienced Chairman.
