Martin Baumann helped launch CMCC Global's first digital asset fund back in 2016, when bitcoin was around $600, and he later stood out for selling the fund's Luna position before its collapse, a decision he's linked to concerns that came up during due diligence. Coming from an M&A banking and CFO background rather than a purely crypto one, he's built a network that includes backers like Block.one, the Winklevoss twins, Richard Li, and Yat Siu, while pushing to grow CMCC into a broader asset manager spanning liquid funds, quantitative strategies, and early-stage equity, with Hong Kong as a hub for that growth.
About their Fund
CMCC Global, founded in Hong Kong in 2016, is one of the earliest Asia-based blockchain-focused venture funds and operates as a multi-product platform spanning liquid digital assets, venture equity, and quant strategies—including Crest, Titan, Everest, SyzCrest, and Bitcoin funds—with early investments in Ethereum, Cosmos, and Solana at very low prices and a team with backgrounds from firms like Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and UBS. In 2019 it launched Asia's first institutional-grade, regulated Bitcoin fund for accredited investors, later launched the Hong Kong-focused Web3 fund Titan with backers such as Winklevoss Capital and Block.one, built close ties to Animoca Brands by leading its Mocaverse round, and added a regulated capital-markets arm holding SFC Type 4 and 9 licenses.
