Masami grew up moving between the UK, Switzerland, New York, and Japan, studied economics in Chicago, and after 9/11 decided to first learn how businesses move fast and make decisions before trying to use that experience for bigger impact—a path that took him through Sony's BRAVIA launch, investment work in the Bay Area, and then leading Uber and WeWork's entry into Japan, including bringing Uber Eats to Tokyo in 2016. At Scrum Ventures, he now focuses on helping startups from other countries actually set up and grow in Japan, and he tends to explain change in business less through hype and more through how companies like Uber redesign how people and services connect.
