IA Ventures was founded by former Wall Street derivatives trader Roger Ehrenberg on an "information arbitrage" thesis, importing quantitative hedge fund pattern recognition and risk management into seed investing in data infrastructure companies. The firm was one of the earliest dedicated "big data" seed funds starting in 2009-2010 and is known for unusually concentrated, conviction-driven investing through small boutique funds that allow partners to spend more time per founder than typical larger platforms.
