Craig Asher's path from manufacturing engineer to consultant to software product manager during the early days of big data, and eventually to biotech investor, shaped his focus on data systems and predictive algorithms in biology, an approach tied to what he describes as merging data and biology, and which led him to back early data-centric biology companies like QuantaLife, 10X Genomics, Twist Bioscience, Ginkgo Bioworks, and CD Diagnostics, sometimes before their science was even publicly proven. Outside of his work at OMX Ventures, he continues studying biochemistry and bioinformatics toward a master's degree, showing a hands-on interest in the science itself rather than just the business side of it.
