Before moving into finance, Douglas Hansen-Luke ran Oxford's student newspaper and worked as a freelance reporter in Afghanistan and Xinjiang, then went on to work at Bain, Salomon Brothers, and ABN AMRO, and co-founded Hong Kong's first regulated online equity research firm, while also leading the first motorcycle expedition from India to the UK through the former Soviet Union and crewing the winning boat in the first Philippine Hobie Challenge race. As an investor, he focuses on the Series B/C growth stage, compares company quality across countries to back strong businesses in cheaper markets before helping them expand into the Middle East and Asia, has worked on efforts to let UK pension funds invest in venture capital, and has spoken about taking Oxford Vaccitech from university research through to its Nasdaq listing.
