Jorge Aguado's background mixes senior marketing roles at IBM and Dell with running Argentina's science and innovation programs, where he oversaw about 6,000 R&D-based startup projects and roughly $100M a year in execution, and he also led Buenos Aires' education technology efforts, including Plan Sarmiento BA. Alongside his work at Newtopia VC, he has co-founded companies in pharma, energy, and social impact, and served as a technology ambassador for Buenos Aires, helping bring free digital skills training to young people staying in COVID isolation hotels.
About their Fund
Newtopia is backed by well-known Latin American business leaders and athletes, was founded by people who helped build Argentina's startup policies and later teamed up with experienced leaders from across the region's tech scene, and focuses on very early-stage companies—starting from just an idea—through a structured 10-week program meant to help them reach product-market fit, filling a gap many see in Latin America between the idea stage and later funding rounds. The fund only backs companies that could realistically return its full $50 million size on their own, tends to prefer business-focused (B2B) companies where software drives growth, and in crypto only invests in startups that make things easier to use and more accessible, all reflecting its belief that Latin America needs more startups being created, not just more money available to invest.
