Kenan Saleh built Halo Cars using no-code tools as a Penn undergraduate and sold it to Lyft in 7-9 months, then became GM of Lyft Media before joining a16z as an investing partner on the speedrun team focused on games and interactive entertainment. He combines this founder-operator background in transportation and advertising with having angel invested in 50+ startups across climate, fintech, robotics, and consumer hardware before his institutional role.
What they've been talking about across their social media accounts

- Focusing heavily on early stage company building through the firm accelerator program. Hosting office hours and actively advising founders on their pitches is a major priority. For example, offering personal meetings to discuss fundraising strategies and ideas with applicants right before cohort deadlines.
- Believing deeply in a coming surge of consumer artificial intelligence applications. Emphasizing products that solve real world personal tasks over purely enterprise tools. For instance, actively asking the community for automated assistants that can handle personal refunds, reserve local tennis courts, and book restaurants.
- Valuing operational speed, relentless execution, and strict metric tracking from founding teams. Praising groups that navigate heavy challenges and pivots to reach successful acquisitions. A practical piece of advice shared is for non-technical founders to learn product design using new automated layout tools so they can actively contribute to early development rather than waiting on engineers.
- Backing digital asset infrastructure and decentralized finance protocols. Having personal experience launching a stablecoin startup that was later acquired brings a hands-on perspective to this space. Frequently highlighting teams that build robust wallet systems and the critical talent migrating to major financial platforms.
Video Interview
On why the pitch deck may not be as important at early stages
"The pitch deck itself is not that important. For the most part, an investor is quickly scanning mostly an email or a blurb or a text or whatever is sent to decide, should I meet this company? Very few investors are actually looking at the deck in depth before the initial meeting."
On what investors are actually scanning before they take a meeting
"The most common thing that I see an investor do is open someone's LinkedIn, scan their recent experience and then look at the bio and some of the other information and then decide, should I meet here?"
On why founders should go wider than they think with their investor list
"People often make a list and it's like 20 or 30 funds. And we push people to make that 100 or 200 funds because there are lots of great investors and there are many more. In totality, there are like thousands of investors, actually."
On choosing the right investor over the highest price
"This valuation is one milestone on the way to a very long journey for the company. What's material is do you become a billion dollar company or do you not become a billion dollar company? The price of the seed round is actually less material in the long run."
On the value of fundraise preparation
"The time spent preparing for the fundraise is as important or maybe more important than the actual fundraising process. A well-choreographed, well-organized fundraising process can happen quickly and go extremely well. A poorly-choreographed one can take a long time and can be suboptimal."

Andreessen Horowitz built a 150+ person operating platform providing recruiting, marketing, and technical support to portfolio companies, and transitioned from a traditional venture fund to a Registered Investment Advisor to make aggressive crypto investments and buy illiquid assets. The firm explicitly positions itself as "a media company now" that produces podcasts and research to capture founder mindshare, while using unusually large fund sizes to lead mega-rounds backing controversial, highly ambitious visions in frontier technology.
