Kevin Webb built his career at the intersection of ecology and venture capital, studying ecosystems at Stanford and sustainability science at Columbia before founding Superorganism after noticing that biodiversity-focused founders he met as an angel investor kept responding as if they had finally found the right investor, convincing him there was a real gap in venture capital; he looks for startups where the environmental benefit is built so deeply into the business that it would be hard to walk away from later, and he believes even a small network of scientists and land stewards can meaningfully lower risk for these companies. Outside of investing, Webb has been vegetarian since eighth grade and points to his first Impossible Burger as the moment he realized new products could replace harmful ones on a large scale, and he credits his college background in sketch comedy for the ease and humor he brings to speaking publicly about his work.
