Leo Lu, a partner at XVC, trained as a software engineer at Fudan and even turned his own student web projects into real revenue before moving into consulting at Bain and then investing at Bluelake Capital/Boyu, and he now describes his goal simply as wanting to either build something that changes the world or help others do it, favoring founder character over big market narratives when he invests early. Outside of work, he's been online since he was 11 and won website-design awards in high school, and he later climbed most of Tibet's snow mountains, dove in oceans around the world, and took up marathon running as a long-term personal challenge after business school.
