Dementia Discovery Fund (DDF) was set up as a collaboration between charities, pharmaceutical companies, and the UK government rather than a typical venture fund, and it focuses on parts of dementia biology beyond the usual amyloid-beta approach, often building new companies itself when promising science exists but no company does yet—already accounting for half its portfolio. It also runs its own drug-discovery infrastructure, including a 500,000-molecule compound library through DDF ChemCo, and draws on an unusually wide investor base, from Bill Gates and the NFL Players Association to AARP and the UK government, while staying exclusively focused on dementia therapeutics.
