Christy Johnson came into venture capital through nonprofit and founder-support work rather than a typical finance background, and she looks for "aligned capital," even sharing Fireroad's values and diligence process with founders upfront and weighing genuine long-term chemistry before investing. She also tracks founder wellbeing directly through recurring check-ins based on a Harvard flourishing framework, focuses on creating good, dignified jobs for frontline workers, and is closely tied to the Cincinnati startup community, where she regularly mentors and teaches founders.
